A seguire due demo autoprodotti, il trio nostrano dei Buen Retiro, attivo dal 1999, approda meritatamente alla prova del primo album, prodotto come si conviene dal duo Andrea DiGiambattista (Santo Niente, Malaerba) e Molecola (Max Gazzé, Tiromancino). La qualità delle registrazioni e del missaggio aggiunge ulteriore linfa vitale alle otto composizioni di “Escargot”, già maturate e strutturate al meglio nel corso degli ultimi sette anni di attività live.
Intenso ed emotivo, minaccioso e nostalgico, il suono dei nostri seduce grazie alle sue intrinseche peculiarità melodiche, pur privilegiando un modus operandi vibrante, pregno di una pregiata pasta chitarristica. Evitando le facili comparazioni con Verdena et similia, vale piuttosto la pena di sollecitare il rimando, più consono, ai transalpini Noir Désir ed agli indimenticati Massimo Volume: tali affinità si evincono in talune sortite strumentali di scuola Gioventù Sonica, nonché nella vivida tensione che abita tracce del calibro di “Démodé”, “Sonomono” o la stessa title-track, certificando un’ispirazione in gran spolvero ed una perizia tecnica fuori discussione.
Un disco lucido ed appassionante, confezionato con gusto e pazienza, che sublima un ipotetico, ideale trampolino di lancio per un ensemble senza dubbio meritevole dell’attenzione di un vasto pubblico.
